Network Engineer
Two Network Engineers for a small, expert team running the low-latency trading network, cloud and on-prem infrastructure behind a European equities exchange. You'll own client onboarding, troubleshoot with packet captures and logs, and keep live markets connected. A shift-based role for someone who finds root cause rather than guessing at it.
The work
Two hires into a small, expert network team. The estate spans a low-latency trading network, cloud environments and on-premises systems, and the work mixes hands-on engineering with project delivery. You'll handle client onboarding, support live exchange platforms during trading hours and help refine how the team works, taking on more project responsibility as you grow. The role runs on a shift rota between 06:30 and 18:30, with occasional weekend or bank holiday work and occasional visits to London data centres.
What you'll be doing
- Run daily operational checks across the network and security estate, and investigate faults and anomalies
- Troubleshoot with logs, monitoring tools and packet captures to find root cause
- Manage client onboarding, access requests and decommissioning
- Work with telecoms and network providers on leased lines, circuits and connectivity issues
- Implement planned network and security changes, with validation and post-change checks
- Support live exchange platforms, take part in incident investigation and root-cause analysis, and keep documentation current
- Monitor capacity and propose plans for growth
What you'll need
Useful extras: PTP, multicast with PIM and RPs, AWS networking, Arista EOS, and network automation with Ansible or Python.
- 4+ years in network and security support engineering, ideally in a financial environment
- CCNP, ACE-P or equivalent experience
- Hands-on OSPF and BGP, and a strong grasp of TCP/IP, spanning tree, RSTP, routing and firewalls
- Support and configuration of a firewall cluster under a central manager, Fortinet ideally
- Wireshark, tcpdump, syslog and firewall log analysis, plus SolarWinds or a similar monitoring platform
- IPsec site-to-site and remote VPN configuration and troubleshooting
- Experience working with telecoms providers and leased lines
- Clear, pragmatic communication and good documentation habits
